I love this. Becoming a parent certainly turned my thoughts on gender on end - and continues to do so over and over. I have a boy and a girl. The boy came first so when my girl came along I realized there was little I could do about who she was or what interested her - which was a gift because I would have railed against pink and princess with a feminist, new parent fury. My son is a total geek and loves star wars, as well as all that dragon-medieval stuff. There's that older sibling influence that has my marriage and princess obsessed daughter fighting the clone army with a pink lightsaber, breaking occasionally to be rescued or to put her pet dragon down for a nap. Crazy.

When I watched ANH (aka "Star Wars") with my sons, I couldn't help thinking, "This will be a day long remembered". And it certainly was - their lives now revolve around anything Star Wars. My wife has the same reaction, and she probably believes I purposely introduced them to the films to make her life miserable (to say she's not a fan of the films would be an understatement, but she humors us).

And yeah, I remember seeing Jewel open for Peter Murphy. Where'd THAT lineup come from?

Awwww, you're just pokin' at me now, man. Anyway, my beef with FB is much more about control of privacy than privacy itself. I'm okay to share lots of stuff, but let me pick. I like these principles: http://www.pcworld.com/article/196798/a_bill_of_rights_for_facebook_users.html

Kids today - at least mine - much prefer the new trilogy to the original one. I haven't figured out exactly why, but I think a lot of it has to do with more Jedis and the addition of the clone troopers (which Lucas brilliantly tied into his new animated show). For those of us who grew up with the original trilogy, there was no way the new films could meet our expectations. Same with the new Indiana Jones film - but with that, I'd learned my lesson. I took it for what it was. When I watch the new SW trilogy films now, I just try to enjoy them, and not compare them to the original films, because you can't. There are many things about them that disappoint, but many good things, too.

I had no intention of watching the Clone Wars animated series, but I DVR'd it for my kids. After a few episodes last year, I realized it was actually pretty good. Again, taking it for what it was. There's a lot of potential with the series, and a lot that can be done since it's animated (let's not get into the fact that much of the new trilogy was "animated"). But at least they're doing it right. We'll see if they can do the same for the new live action series.
