I was asked today by somebody whether I lost a bet and I had to say that “No, I won one.” That brought an even more quizzical look.

The school where I work held their annual fund raising auction a few weeks ago. I was nominated for Cream of the Crop (sort of a king of the auction). I told the folks that if I won (by collecting the most donations) I’d shave my head. Needless to say, I won by a landslide. (Most people didn’t realize that I’ll do pretty much anything to my hair).

Then the auctioneer got the smart idea to auction off the rights to actually do the deed. Some 8th grade parents decided they really wanted to see their kid do it, so they won.

Here I am under the sheers. The kids had a blast and I ended up raising a lot of money for the school.

But now I’m bald and the temp here in Kenosha has dipped into the 30′s.

It’s still worth it.

So I’m composing this little entry via the word processing application in Google Docs.

I’m not sure how it’s going to do with formatting and typography and so I’m a little bit curious.

While I like the WordPress 2.5 interface, I don’t find the post composing screen to be really conducive to expressing myself well. It’s like working in a badly lit office. You need the right environment to work to your best level.

The word processing interface that I LOVE is Adobe’s Buzzword. I could type in that environment until the cows come home. I will post more about it some other time since I feel really strongly about it.

I’m missing my 25th high school reunion today. In honor, here I am circa 1983.

Raiders of the Lost BackyardVanity Fair has a piece about some teenagers who made a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark between 1982 and 1989. It’s a great story of young obsession with pop culture and just what people can do when they have a real passion.

Way back in 1977 some friends and I had this kind of love affair with Star Wars and dabbled in some 8mm recreations. So I can really identify with these guys, though we obviously never took it to quite this level.

Here’s the VF article and you can see the opening scene (up to the giant boulder) below:

During my recent jaunt to Disneyworld I fell in love with Mary Blair’s It’s A Small World Designs.
